- Risk asset markets continued to perform well in May, despite increasing geopolitical risks. Central bank liquidity, vaccine optimism, and the EU inching towards a more formal fiscal union were instead focal points.
- Credit spreads were 10-20bp tighter in Australia, with financials outperforming. US markets moved by more than this and higher- beta names continued to lead the way. New deal flow is seeing strong support.
- Nominal bond yields were little changed, although Australian rates avoided the small sell off seen in the US as the final cost of the JobKeeper allowance was revised substantially lower. Expectations for future inflation rose in line with risk sentiment, adding incremental returns in our Overlay.

EMAX Fund and Investment Objective
EMAX is an absolute return bond strategy. The Fund is not constrained by any traditional fixed income index, which provides us the flexibility to seek out the best risk adjusted returns available across regions, sectors and securities.
EMAX aims to provide investors with a monthly income stream over the medium term by investing in a diversified portfolio of credit fixed income securities and cash that exceeds the RBA Cash Rate (after fees) by 3-4% over a market cycle.
